- Operations Day for SQL Server 2008 in UK - for Premier customers
-
I found an interesting blog in The Premiers blog site that is used by Premier Field Engineering team within Microsoft that serves most of the Customers (Permier contracts), they are conducting an Open day - Operations Day for SQL Server 2008 within their Campus in Thames Valley, Reading on 05th June 2008. This will be a good point for Database Administration for the Enterprises that are having Premier support contract with Microsoft to discuss about technical information covering in specific to SQL Server 2008, that is scheduled to release this year.
Also this morning I have had email from relevant Technical Account Manager (TAM) and also advised that places will be allotted on a first come first served basis. Best way is to speak to your relevant TAM contact within your Enterprise to get the allocation on that day.
- Most Valueable 'technical' week so far this year, for me - MVP Global summit 2008
-
In continuation with MVP global summit related posts here I can say since 12th April 2008 it has been a very useful week in terms of Technical knowledge update & networking.
As you may know this is a MVP exclusive event that is not one of public wide conference, that gives a four day (in-depth) conference that is hosted at the Washington Trade and Convention Center in Seattle and at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond too. Not to mention about interaction with Product Development group for each of the MVP that they are expertised and also giving an exclusive access to more than 400 sessions and panel discussions and a range of networking opportunities. To cover up this MVP-AttendingGeography related post here and I think near 2.500 MVP have attended this summit, most of them made new networking links & more good to see 'in-person' techie geek that are sharing the valueable knowledge in all kinds of IT technologies.
During Wednesday, specially for SQL Server related MVPs it was a great time in meeting SQL Server Relational Engine development team members, that are important in enhancing/developing Language Processing, Metadata, Utilities, Storage Engine, SQL OS layers within SQL Server, no doubt that the room was full-packed with a flood of many questions from MVPs related to Query Processing - joins, cache, performance - indexing & caching, procedure cache, memory and many more that will make a better place for SQL Server (existing and upcoming versions), also its a positive acknowledgement/explanation from the team (thanks to them) and you may recognise few from the snaps from this Web Album.
Not only this as a curtain closer we had energetic presence from Microsoft top executives such as Steve Ballmer, CEO and Ray Ozzie, CSO (Software Architect), as it was Bill Gates here last year. I will addup the photos & videos in due course.
- DevConnections conferences schedules in Orlando, Florida - check it out
-
Here is the list of schedule for DevConnections conferences that are lined up in Orlando, Florida during this month:
- UK User Group Community Days @ Microsoft, Thames Valley Park - free to attend
-
As blogged here earlier the User Group Community Day is fast approaching and still places are available for the interested IT users to bring you the third of its free to attend community days and this time we are bigger and more in depth than ever.
Why 2 days?
This Two day event will include group sessions for all as well as breakout sessions on specific technologies across 5 rooms so you are guaranteed to find something you want to participate and listen to. Many of the speakers are recognised Community experts as well as MVP awardees in their respective technology plus we hope to have a fair representation of Microsoft staff as well.
Do you need to chill-out during evening?
Evening event - Not content with running two full days of great IT Pro focuses sessions we are also running an evening event for both days. The idea behind this event is that is a chance to chill out with your peers and the speakers and Microsoft personnel from the day. Find out more.
Venue and dates please?
This User Group Community Day being held at Microsoft Campus in Reading on April the 8th and 9th. For details on the venue location for those that have not been to the Microsoft Campus and this will start with the introductions and Keynote at 9.30am so aim to be arriving at the venue for 9am if possible.
Where can I register?
Click on this Event Registration Form to register and attend, remaining places are first come first serve basis.
What else is included for this excitement?
There will be User Group community stands outside the main conference hall so you will be able to chat with representatives of the User Groups in breaks and at lunch. There will be lunch provided for all attendees as well teas and coffee’s at the breaks.
Ok, how about agenda and timetable for this conference?
Yes it is available, you can either have a sneak preview of events this Conference Agenda or to print out the PDF of the agenda and timetable from here.
Wait, we haven't finished yet to give you more excitement?
A new section is created for Attendees, IT Hero Section which is held between 16:55 and 17:30 hours.
So what's the big idea behind it?
The idea behind this section is that one person from each of the technology areas represented on the day will come out of the audience to talk for around 5 minutes about a solution they have been involved with that uses the latest Microsoft technology (Server 2008 for example).
See you there for another mind-effective community days lined up for you to get to know all about in IT.
- MVP Global Summit - where all the attendees are coming from, view map geographically?
-
MVP Global Summit, what it meant for MVPs?
At one place, global connections with peers with a shared insight with a flavour of engagement with relevant product manager, sounds terrific isn't it!
Who can attend - as per the previous post on MVP Global Summit 2008 here, if you are a Most Valuable Professional or Regional Director then you are invited to attend this exclusive summit between April 14 - 17 2008. The venue is hosted hosted at the Washington Trade and Convention Center in Seattle and at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington, with an exclusive access to more than 400 sessions and panel discussions and a range of networking opportunities, as well as Microsoft top executives such as Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer, and Ray Ozzie, chief software architect.
So what's new with this post, fellow MVP John OBrien (Live Development) has done an excellent & another valueable job by teaming up with Summit organisers to produce a 'small world' Virtul Earth visualisation of where all the attendees of the summit are coming from. As you can see the data is a general area (city basis) to zoom and if you see larger dots that represents more MVPs on that area, pretty cool!.
This summit may be first one for the new MVPs who are awarded since last July 2007 cycle and for me it is 2nd one, its worth a trip to seattle with a deep dive to immerse into technology.
- Webcast: 24 Hours of SQL Server 2008: Ensuring Your Data Is Secure with a Trusted Platform
-
Another part of Technet webcast series on SQL Server 2008.
In this part a focus on IT professionals and the SQL Server 2008 the Trusted Platform. In the first part of the series we spent time looking at how Contoso was using SQL Server 2008 as a productivity platform. Now we change direction from developers and look at how Contoso's IT operations embraced the new and enhanced features to make sure that SQL Server 2008 was a trusted platform. The first two parts address security, which is a main theme for Contoso as they have large amounts of critical data that needs to be protected against both internal and external threats. Either data loss or compromise would be a nightmare scenario. In this session, we look at features such as surface area configuration policies, external key management, and Network Access Protection (NAP), and Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption, which Contoso could use to protect its data.

• Why you need replica servers, and how to automatically configure them
• How to test and validate your replica environment without operator intervention
