SQL Server 2008: Administer multiple servers by designating configuration servers

Ok, they give you new tool and in next release it has been taken away!

This is similar to Surface Area Configuration tool from SQL Server 2005 and after 3 years you don't see from next release which is SQL Server 2008. How do you manage or can administer the multiple servers with the configuration settings & setup!

It is changed now where you can manage the show from SQL Server Management Studio itself, ok all in one!

SQL Server 2008 brings you new option within Object Explorer that is called where you can add/manage multiple servers by designating configuration servers and creating server groups. Say if you add an instance of SQL Server that is designated as a configuration server maintains server groups which maintain the connection information for one or more instances of SQL Server. So this new feature in this new version includes connection information about the configuration targets.

Few things to watch for this  configuration server setup and grouping the number of servers is you can simply go through SSMS --> Object Explorer --> use the Registered Servers window. Also this configuration server cannot be a member of a group that it maintains and only the servers that are setup to authentication of "Windows Authentication" is supported.
