SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 CTP
Its over half-year that SQL Server 2008 has been RTM'd and now it is time to test the CTP (Community Technology Preview) aka beta version of Service Pack 1 for this version.
Absolutely right, for those of you waiting to try SQL Server 2008 until SP1 is available, which is a good news for most of Enterprise DBAs to deploy 2008 version as most of the companies are waiting for this release and slowly we are one step closer. As referred this is a CTP version which gives you (DBA & Users) to test the pack thorougly against all the applications & deployment within your like-to-like or Model-office or Test environment to ensure that no surprises are expected when you plan to deploy final SP1 release in the production. You can download the SQL2008 SP1 CTP (server edition) and/or SQL2008 Express SP1 CTP and this will update the instance build as # 10.00.2520.
As per the usual release the SP1 CTP has been categorised as below:

The main highlights of this CTP release are (source:SQL Server release services blog):
- Slipstream - You are now able to integrate the base installation with service packs (or Hotfixes) and install in a single step.
- Service Pack Uninstall - You are now able to uninstall only the Service Pack (without removing the whole instance)
- Report Builder 2.0 Click Once capability
If you have any issues that are needed to fix with the release then it is your responsibility to refer the bug/workaround on Connect Feedback Center for further information.
Good luck and perform a thorough testing.
